I just want to mention that the CA cert bundle we bundle in the curl release
archives is very out of date and lacks a lot.

It should be used with that knowledge. I urge you to upgrade it to a more
accurate and up-to-date CA cert collection for it to become really usuable.
One way is to download and install the one we extract from Mozilla:

         http://curl.haxx.se/docs/caextract.html

If you don't understand what the CA cert bundle is good for, then you either
don't use HTTPS/FTPS or you should go read this:
