Error - 550 SSL/TLS required on the control channel

We were recommended curl for doing secure FTP to pull files from
another company server.

We have installed it and when we run the curl command, we receive the
following error -

220 FTP Server ready.
550 SSL/TLS required on the control channel
550 SSL/TLS required on the control channel
550 SSL/TLS required on the control channel
550 SSL/TLS required on the control channel
550 SSL/TLS required on the control channel

What would need to be done to resolve this ?
