Did you call curl_exec before trying the statement below?

No, it doesn't work.
 
$info = curl_getinfo ($ch, CURLINFO_EFFECTIVE_URL);

does not work...

The url I am using is:

http://www.nscash.com/mpa2/random.php?s=2&id=104205
<http://www.nscash.com/mpa2/random.php?s=2&id=104205>

it redirects to:

http://www.nsgalleries.com/hosted1/ns/gals/dasha3/index.php?id=104205
