I downloaded the sources for pycurl and libcurl and couldn't find the
string either.

As it turns out, the password auth was coming from our robots.txt
parser, which uses urrlib instead of pycurl.

So, problem solved, sorry to waste your time here, and thanks for the
help nonetheless!
