Any way to avoid DNS resolve?

Hi Everyone,
cURLlib seems to be doing a DNS name resolve even when I pass an IP
address in using CURLOPT_URL. Is there any way to avoid this? - I am
opening lots of connections rapidly and the underlying DNS system
seems to die and cURLlib then just kicks out error 6.
Any pointer in the right direction would be much appreciated,
