I did something like:
setProxy(...);
curl_easy_setopt(curl,CURLOPT_CUSTOMREQUEST,"DELETE");
curl_easy_setopt(curl, CURLOPT_URL,
"ftp://toto:paass@192.168.200.138/tata/plouf");
res = curl_easy_perform(curl);

And I obtain: (the file plouf really exists)

* Connected to linrout.dsdev.in (192.168.200.5)
> DELETE ftp://toto:paass@192.168.200.138/tata/plouf
