Using Proxy with cURL and Persistent Connections

Hi,
If I were to use proxy with cURL handle, does that mean the only open
connection will be to the proxy? And the same connection will be reused, no
matter what URL it is?
How about tunneling SSL through the proxy? Is it more efficient to reuse
handle that has prior request to the same host, or does it matter? The
proxy is only used for caching, so for SSL, is it better off without the
proxy?
