We just compile libcurl against openssl , use a https url and use the
following options to get basic connectivity

 curl_easy_setopt(fHandle, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, FALSE);
 curl_easy_setopt(fHandle, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST, FALSE);
