Increase in TIMED_WAIT state in netstat with newer version of curl

Hello, Has anyone encountered an increase in "TIMED_WAIT" state after
upgrading to curl v7 from curl v6 ? We are seeing a lot of sockets in the
"TIMED_WAIT" state in our system and it doesn't seem to happen when we run
curl v6. We are enabling persistence for only HTTPS transactions. Is there
any co-relation here ? Any valuable opinions/suggestions ?
