libcurl has no notion of "executables", so I would assume that you get this
problem due to some other peculiarity in the stream.

But no, this didn't make any more bells ring. I don't see any other
alternative than to either try a newer version or try debugging this.

Personally I don't waste much time on bug-hunting in ancient versions unless
given a very good motive.
