Thanks, that was the first thing I looked at. There really was a
problem in the code.
1. The default timeout is very long.
2. I set a 30 second timeout
3. An invalid name caused the functions to return timeout errors
immediately, instead of resolution errors

That is actually documented for the TIMEOUT option but apparently
missing in the docs for CONNECTTIMEOUT.
