No benefits except for the benefits it actually includes then?

The fact that the library grows size-wise is not really that strange and I
would say that libcurl is no exception here but follows the life-cycle habits
of most software projects I know of. Just because you don't enjoy the new
features or bug fixes (for the moment) don't mean that they are without
benefit.

Your entire approach to this problem is also a proof of what I would claim to
be selfishness, as we are indeed willing to provide abilities for people to
build libcurl with specific features turned off to trim the size or speed or
whatever, but we are the guys who are here with the code now and at least I
plan to be around for the forseeable future as well and then I want code to go
in that is as maintainable as possible and easy to use and follow for future
users as well. I've been less strict on this in the past at times - only to
regret it multipe times years afterwards.

Everyone around here is free to think and have their own opinions and run
whatever code they please. I'm fully aware that libcurl won't suit everyone.
It never did and it never will.
