does curl_multi_handle curl_multi_perform() use pthreads?

Hi,
I plan use curl "multi" interface to perform HTTP POST upload ( 3 instances
of "easy" are grouped in "multi").
I was wondering whether the implementation of curl_multi_perform() function
use pthreads to concurrently perform the operation.
Pls share if anyone has knowledge about implementation of
curl_multi_perform()
