I really only got to one of them, and it turned out to be really hairy.

This patch (should be applied on top of threading-v3.diff.gz) fixes the
configure logic for evaluating whether we have an appropriate threadsafe
resolver. The changes to hostthre.c have not yet been done yet.

I looked up a plethora of man pages from different versions of various BSDs
and OS X to compile this information!

I've tested this only on OS X so far.

I might do more, but likely not. My girlfriend's about to finish her
postgraduate entrance exam and will probably want to celebrate. :)
