The thread om social.msdn does not relate to OP's problem, but to your
remark that you shouldn't need to manually modify makefiles. There are
exceptions to that rule. I even have some perl-scripts that do a
/-manifest/\/manifest/ on every makefile in my Windows build environment
(after the makefiles have been generated by configure).
