Lovely. Thanks a lot for your help with this, it really made a difference to
me since the problem didn't repeat very easily here. I've merged and pushed
this change now (commit 56b7c87c74d2).

A bonus fun story: While I worked on this fix, I happened to notice that we
had another "easy-interface" function left in the code that I could remove
since it isn't used anymore (commit 32e8467a66778d) and look at this lovely
diffstat:
