failure to statically link libcurl-7.36.0 to openssl 1.0.0d libraries on Solaris 10 on Intel

Hello,

I receive the following error when I try to link to static libssl.a/libcrypto.a on Solaris 10/11 on Intel:

    against symbol offset in file
