Check the dynamic header section of your output binaries and you
will likely see libssl.so.0.9.7 is NEEDED. Therefore the latest
openssl libs libssl.so.1.0.0 are not.

stop that.

Well there is your problem. What does your curl binary actually NEED as
specified in the ELF headers ?
