That's my pull request that has not been accepted because of lack of interest.
Basically the problem was caused by creating fragile workarounds around bug in apple connectx header declaration/library implementation and not using weak-linking checks for other routines properly.
Now https://github.com/curl/curl/pull/1788 <https://github.com/curl/curl/pull/1788> added another workaround which unfortunately works only with Xcode 9.

I've now updated the pull request to be up-to-date with latest curl sources to fix the problem again across macOS systems and Xcode environments.
