Thanks for your report. The axTLS backend is not widely used and we don't have a lot of hackers working on it. I think you'll get results on this faster if you start digging into this problem yourself.

Hey everyone,
Using axTLS for SSL adds a funny 6-7 second delay on multiple platforms, with the latest cURL and axTLS releases. After digging further, this went away when we disable the non-blocking connect function, using only the blocking version.
I'm not sure if someone more familiar with the project might readily know why?
BTW, axtls.c doesn't compile on Windows, unistd.h needs to be commented, and Sleep(1) needs to be used instead of usleep(10000).
