Thanks for replying. I'm not sure on how to get the later versions in
Cygwin, as the versions I have are the latest for Cygwin.

However, to give an update, I'm pretty sure it is not the versions that
are the problem. I have tried uploading to a different server from my
home PC using the same versions and it all works perfectly. Also, using
ftp instead of sftp works. It is possibly a Cygwin issue, or something
on the server, who knows. Thankfully, I have been investigating into
other options and have now used lftp which seems to work as expected.
When there is an upgrade to Curl and libssh2 in Cygwin, I will update
and try again, just to see if it makes any difference. Will try and post
back here if it works or not.

Could you try using curl 7.18.0 with libssh2 0.18.0 or 0.18.0-CVS and
report back ?
