I'm not sure, but you may very well get problems just because you're using a
severly outdated curl version.

Well, FileZilla is known to be a weird server in the FTP-SSL area so it being
new or not doesn't tell me much.

I would recommend exactly like Dan F said: try the ftp:// and --ftp-ssl
approach. That's how it should be done.
