Ah, I came to think of a few other things as well, while we're at it:

What about some flags or something that informs the application if the
library has support for kerberos4, ipv6 and http-deflate (and possibly some
new dynamic features that we add in the future)? Or even, what if the
application wants to know the version number of the openssl library that
libcurl is using?
