Yes, it requires even a modified, IDN-enabled, getaddrinfo implementation.
 But it sounds as if it won't be enough for what you need anyway.
However, if, in the future, many systems have IDN enabled getaddrinfo in
libc, but doesn't have libidn installed, it might be useful to give
(limited) support for that configuration too.
