lynx OK, http_post OK, cURL can't resolve

I have a machine that I get Error #6 "Couldn't resolve host" errors
when I try to connect using cURL; however, I have no troubles
connecting with lynx or another *nix posting program called
"http_post". I can also connect to the "problem" machine using any
web browser on my local desktop Mac.
