I don't know if this is the cause of this problem, as I haven't seen anything
this major, but 7.9.3 is not a good curl version to fiddle with SSL on.

My advice is to get a 7.9.5 pre-release, or downgrade to 7.9.2 until there's
an official 7.9.5.
