So what versions would you recommend as a stable setup? This is a live
server so I'm more interested in tried & tested rather than the latest shiny
update.

I seriously doubt it. If *all* bugs and security fixes had been applied, it
would no longer be that version they claim it to be... They probably
backport
and apply a selection of bug fixes and hopefully all the security flaws.

Yes, but I don't personally care much for reports on ancient versions of
(lib)curl so thus I recommend upgrading first as then if you can still
repeat
the problem I'd be willing to listen...
