You are talking about the bug we refer to as issue 12 in the TODO-RELEASE
document. This problem was originally brought up by Jacob S.

Anyway, I've already posted my suggested fix to this problem, and it differs
quite a lot from yours. I've not received any feedback whatsoever on my patch,
so I've just let it be waiting for reactions. I don't think the proper
solution is to send a GET first.
