Summary: curl expires quickly after connecting to an NNTP server

Initial Comment:
curl expires almost immediately after connecting via telnet to an NNTP (news) server.

If the user is speed enough he/she may or may not manage to type a few commands.

Verbose output:

D:\>curl -v telnet://news.grnet.gr:119
* About to connect() to news.grnet.gr port 119 (#0)
* Trying 194.177.210.144... connected
* Connected to news.grnet.gr (194.177.210.144) port 119 (#0)
200 news.grnet.gr InterNetNews NNRP server INN 2.4.5 ready (posting ok).
* Closing connection #0
* Failed to open/read local data from file/application
curl: (26) Failed to open/read local data from file/application

so, how fast does it disconnect? And secondly, if you telnet to an ordinary
HTTP server at port 80 (without typing anything), does it then disconnect
or does it "hang" connected?

Message:
Ah, I forgot that the telnet code has a huge chunk of windows-specific code
that I cannot proof-read nor debug since I don't use Windows myself. Also,
TELNET is probably the least used protocol in curl's toolbox so I'm not
sure you'll find many eager helping hands on this problem.

Alas, I suggest you roll up your sleeves and start debugging this yourself
and ask on the curl-library list if there's anything particular with that
that you need help with.

As a stated to my follow-up (1st comment), I use the windows version. Other
versions might not be affected.

I can't repeat it against the same URL you used. I tried both 7.21.0 and
7.21.2-DEV on my Debian Linux right now.

The server closes down the connection after a while of inactivity (seems
to be 10 seconds) but that's not curl's fault.
